WHAT IS GRATITUDE?
Gratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.
The importance is a readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. I think we often miss this important part of gratitude.

Helps in the healing process
Improves sleep
Increases joy and happiness
Improves relationship with self and others
Changes the way you interact with the world around you
GETTING STARTED
Understand why gratitude is important
It is important to put intention behind your practices. Spend some time journaling about what a daily gratitude practice means to you and why you want to develop one.
Create time and space
Create time and space in your day to write 1-3 things you are grateful for and why. I recommend adding this to your daily journal practice. I wrote a post with free journal prompts on 5 steps to start a journal practice here.
Use Prompts
We all have a lot to be grateful for, but sometimes it can feel silly or we are unsure about what to write about. Prompts are a great way to guide your writing and create introspection. I included a free 31 Days of Gratitude Journal for you (linked below).
Don't over think it...
Sometimes there can be pressure around being grateful for certain things. Or embarrassment around the things you are grateful for. If you're grateful for your Starbucks barista the morning - write that down! There is no right or wrong way, just your way.
Create action
The definition of gratitude includes "a readiness to show appreciation for and return kindness". So if you are grateful for something, include in your practice an action item to show appreciation for and return that kindness!
